Espria calls for refurbished IT to boost sustainability in education

Foxway and Econocom unite for sustainable tech

A recent survey of IT leaders from Microsoft, Dell, and other sector giants revealed that by 2032, a fifth of all enterprise laptops will likely be pre-used, refurbished models. This shift is driven by the increasing demand for sustainable devices and the need to reduce both carbon footprints and hardware budgets, making refurbished technology a necessary choice rather than just an option.

The main barrier to adopting these sustainable devices has been concerns over quality. However, with the availability of devices that come with 2- or 3-year RTB warranties and BSI accreditations, this is no longer an issue. Managed Service Providers, like Espria, have already reported growth in this area, and the education sector stands to benefit significantly from high-quality, budget-friendly refurbished IT equipment, especially amid ongoing budget cuts.

Steve Dickinson, head of supply chain at  Espria emphasised on the importance of “…ensuring schools and colleges get the best sustainable solution for their requirements” and stated that “Many refurbished equipment providers offer extended warranties with BSI accreditation and maintenance services that can provide educators with peace of mind. This shift in attitude towards refurbished IT equipment has been driven by several factors, including cost savings and environmental sustainability and the ability to offset these devices against carbon footprint”.

To recall, for over 25 years, Espria has been simplifying business processes by providing bespoke managed IT solutions across the UK. By delivering outstanding service and future-proofed technology to support digital transformation, their solutions span cloud IT, unified communications and document management.
