Fairphone has introduced its sixth-generation smartphone, designed to be lighter and more robust than earlier models. The Fairphone 6 builds on the company’s signature modular approach, now offering a suite of interchangeable accessories such as cardholders and finger loops, allowing users to tailor the device to their needs. A new feature, Fairphone Moments mode, also lets users customise app and notification settings for a streamlined, less distracting experience.
The handset’s modular construction enables users to unscrew the back and replace the battery or any of eleven other components, including the display and charging port, with ease. The back cover itself is now designed to accommodate the new range of accessories, providing extra convenience and personalisation. These changes continue Fairphone’s commitment to repairability and longevity, encouraging a more sustainable relationship with technology.
A notable addition is the physical switch that enables Fairphone Moments mode. This feature lets individuals select an “essentials” profile that limits the home screen to basic apps and notifications, helping reduce digital clutter and improve focus. Additional profiles can be set up to suit different needs, whether for work or personal use, enhancing the device’s versatility in daily life.
In compliance with the latest EU sustainability regulations, the Fairphone 6 boasts an ‘A’ energy rating and is constructed from over 50 percent fairly sourced or recycled materials. The device comes with a five-year hardware warranty and guaranteed software support until 2033, while Fairphone claims it has the lowest carbon footprint of any smartphone to date. Priced at €599 and offered in green, black, or white, it is available throughout Europe via retailers and carriers, and will be released in the United States in partnership with Murena, which offers a privacy-focused alternative operating system.
