Fairphone’s exciting partnership with Amsterdam

Fairphone announces a significant collaboration with the City of Amsterdam to supply part of the city’s official smartphone needs. Since its inception, Fairphone has called Amsterdam home and has always taken pride in its Dutch heritage. This partnership marks a special milestone for Fairphone, recognising a decade of dedicated effort and hard work.

Gemeente Amsterdam’s CTO, Ger Baron, expressed that the partnership with Fairphone has been eagerly anticipated. He highlighted that this collaboration demonstrates their commitment to creating a more sustainable organisation, particularly in hardware. By working with Fairphone, they support the company’s mission to produce electronics more sustainably and move towards a fully circular smartphone.

John van der Ree, Fairphone’s Business Development Manager, shared his excitement about this milestone for the company, especially as a Dutch enterprise. He emphasised the significance of becoming Amsterdam’s official smartphone provider, coinciding with the city’s 750th anniversary in 2025. Van der Ree noted that Fairphone’s focus has always been on designing durable products, and he looks forward to a successful and sustainable partnership that contributes to a fairer future.
