VodafoneZiggo has signed a three‑year programme with Ericsson to refresh and expand its mobile network across the Netherlands. The agreement focuses on preparing for rising data demand while delivering a smoother, more dependable experience nationwide. It also underpins the operator’s ambitions to support new consumer, enterprise and IoT services.
A key element of the plan is the introduction of the newly awarded 3.5 GHz spectrum, alongside wide‑ranging infrastructure upgrades and enhanced performance management. Around 3,000 sites are included in the rollout, forming the backbone of a modernised radio access network designed to lift capacity and coverage.
Energy efficiency sits at the heart of the project. Ericsson will deploy its ultralight AIR 3255 TDD Massive MIMO radio, which can cut power usage by up to 63% versus earlier models and is 58% lighter at just 12 kg. Additional solutions will streamline installation and reduce energy consumption further, helping VodafoneZiggo progress its sustainability goals without sacrificing network quality.
The initiative builds on an all‑Ericsson footprint and includes full build and deployment services, with work starting this year and continuing through the term. According to both companies, the partnership marks another step towards best‑in‑class connectivity for the Netherlands, combining higher performance and capacity with a lower environmental impact.
