Vodafone and Carbon Trust to launch carbon calculator app

Vodafone has unveiled a new Carbon Calculator app aimed at assisting business clients in understanding the carbon emissions linked to their mobile phone usage. Developed in collaboration with the Carbon Trust, this innovative tool enables users to accurately assess the environmental impact of their mobile plans. By providing detailed insights into emissions, Vodafone empowers businesses to make informed choices that can contribute to a more sustainable future.

This initiative aligns with Vodafone UK’s comprehensive sustainability strategy, which outlines ambitious goals to achieve net-zero emissions across its operations by 2027 and throughout its entire value chain by 2040. The introduction of the Carbon Calculator is a significant step in these efforts, as it allows customers to identify areas where they can reduce their carbon footprint. Additionally, Vodafone is rolling out a trade-in app for business customers, offering immediate savings for eligible devices and further promoting eco-friendly practices.

Vodafone’s commitment to sustainability is underscored by the growing concern over e-waste, which has surged dramatically in recent years. The company highlights that, in 2023, the average individual generated approximately 8 kg of e-waste, contributing to an alarming total of 61.3 million tonnes globally. By providing tools like the Carbon Calculator and encouraging responsible device trade-ins, Vodafone aims to mitigate the environmental impact of the telecommunications sector, which has been estimated to account for up to 2.8% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
