H&M Group champions sustainability and circularity in fashion

H&M Group’s latest sustainability report demonstrates its deepening commitment to environmental stewardship and the circular economy. By 2024, the company had achieved substantial progress, including a 41% reduction in direct emissions and a marked improvement in supply chain-related emissions, all while transitioning nearly all its electricity use to renewable sources. Notably, almost nine out of ten materials used in H&M’s collections were either recycled or sourced sustainably, moving the company closer to its ambition for fully sustainable or recycled inputs by 2030.

Central to H&M’s sustainability drive is its focus on circular fashion. The brand has expanded its investment in resale platforms such as Sellpy, encouraging the reuse of garments and helping to extend the lifespan of clothing. Special collections of vintage designer pieces have further promoted the value of pre-loved fashion, blending heritage and innovation. Additionally, H&M has collaborated with industry peers on decarbonisation projects in key production regions, underlining its commitment to shared progress across the fashion sector.

Social responsibility remains a cornerstone of H&M’s ethos, with women now occupying a majority of leadership roles within the group. Partnerships with organisations like Women Win’s ONSIDE Fund support community initiatives that address inequality through movement and sport. Despite facing market fluctuations and store closures, H&M reported increased operating profits, thanks to effective cost management and supply chain improvements. Looking ahead, the company is determined to scale up circular business models, further reduce its climate footprint, and lead the transition to a more sustainable and inclusive fashion industry.
