NTT Data sets net-zero course for UK data centres

NTT Data has outlined a strategy to drive its UK data centre operations towards net-zero emissions, placing sustainability at the heart of its infrastructure plans. The programme focuses on improving energy efficiency, increasing renewable power usage and reducing the overall environmental footprint of its facilities.

Data centres are critical to the digital economy, yet they are also energy-intensive. By optimising cooling systems, modernising equipment and incorporating greener energy sources, NTT Data aims to cut emissions while maintaining the reliability demanded by cloud and enterprise customers. The company’s roadmap reflects a broader industry push to align digital growth with climate targets.

Although data centres are often associated with new builds and expansion, sustainability in this sector also depends on smarter lifecycle management of IT assets. Extending the usable life of servers and hardware, improving component reuse and embracing refurbishment where possible can complement energy reforms. Together, these measures illustrate how digital infrastructure and circular principles increasingly intersect.
