Orange and Camusat forge a sustainable future in telecoms

Orange and Camusat have announced a significant collaboration aimed at hastening the environmental transformation of telecommunications infrastructure. This alliance brings together both companies in a shared mission to cut carbon emissions throughout the supply chain—a vital step towards more sustainable industry practices. The partnership distinguishes itself as part of Orange’s ‘Partners to Net Zero Carbon’ initiative, which enlists its suppliers in the collective challenge of diminishing greenhouse gas emissions.

Under the terms of their new agreement, Orange and Camusat have established clear and quantifiable objectives to lessen CO₂-equivalent emissions from Camusat’s products and services. Special emphasis has been placed on curbing energy use within technical infrastructure, incorporating sustainable materials, and streamlining logistics. The agreement is a notable milestone, as it introduces robust targets and accountability mechanisms for suppliers to drive meaningful change across the sector.

Achieving carbon neutrality by 2040 is central to Orange’s environmental agenda, with particular attention paid to ‘scope 3’ emissions—those arising from procurement and supply chains, which represent over four-fifths of the Group’s total greenhouse gas output. Camusat, already a proponent of renewable energy and low-carbon solutions, has aligned its own decarbonisation strategies with internationally recognised standards, recently earning validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

The partnership is designed to deliver practical and measurable outcomes. Both firms will jointly deploy strategies to reduce emissions, share data to better understand their collective carbon footprint, and continuously monitor progress. Camusat will supply detailed carbon impact data for its solutions, which Orange will integrate into its broader emissions assessments, thereby refining its environmental reporting and supporting its overall reduction goals.

Elizabeth Tchoungui, who oversees Corporate Social Responsibility at Orange, emphasised the company’s strong determination to reach carbon neutrality by 2040 and highlighted that working closely with suppliers like Camusat is key to advancing sustainable energy use and minimising environmental impact. Elodie Perrigot, Director of ESG HSE E&S Ethics at Camusat, noted that this collaboration supports both Camusat’s own greenhouse gas reduction goals and Orange’s drive towards sustainability, with innovative solutions such as low-carbon infrastructure playing a vital role in meeting the sector’s increasing need for renewable energy.

This collaboration builds on a longstanding relationship between Orange and Camusat, particularly across projects in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. By placing innovation and sustainability at the forefront of their work, both organisations are setting a benchmark for the industry. Orange’s broader strategy remains anchored in its commitment to cut CO₂ emissions by 45% across all operational scopes by 2030 (relative to 2020 levels) and to achieve full carbon neutrality by 2040, ensuring that environmental responsibility remains integral to its business ambitions.
