Recommerce Group is excited to announce the launch of 28,000 carbon credits, derived from its European refurbishment activities. This initiative highlights the company’s commitment to the circular economy, having refurbished over 6 million devices since 2009. By entering the carbon credit market, Recommerce not only emphasises the environmental benefits of device reuse but also adds a financial dimension to its long-standing mission of extending the life of electronic devices.
As a key player in the refurbishment sector, Recommerce recognises the significant impact of reuse on reducing carbon emissions. On average, a refurbished smartphone prevents the emission of 50kg of CO2. This new venture supports local business models by promoting trade-in programs, increasing purchasing power for EU consumers, and creating local jobs. Additionally, it aims to boost the overall number of refurbished devices in circulation.
The 28,000 carbon credits have been certified by Riverse and verified by VERIFAVIA, ensuring their credibility. This effort not only reduces electronic waste but also provides businesses with an effective way to offset their carbon emissions and enhance their sustainability strategies. Recommerce’s initiatives, such as the REBOX project and partnerships with socially engaged companies, further demonstrate its dedication to a greener future.
