Refurbished phones now account for a tenth of Magyar Telekom’s online sales

Magyar Telekom reports that refurbished smartphones have quickly become a meaningful part of its digital sales mix, making up around 10 per cent of all handsets purchased through its online shop. Since launching the offering in October 2023, customers have bought more than 30,000 renewed devices, with weekly sales averaging about 300 units.

The operator notes that iPhones dominate the category, representing 84 per cent of refurbished purchases. Shoppers are primarily motivated by two factors: the lower environmental impact of choosing a reused device and the average price reduction of roughly 24 per cent compared with buying new. The combination of cost savings and sustainability has helped drive steady demand.

Magyar Telekom says the results show growing consumer confidence in high‑quality refurbished phones and reflects a broader shift across Europe towards circular tech adoption. The company expects interest to continue rising as more customers look for affordable, lower‑carbon alternatives to new smartphones.
