Refurbished technology is enjoying a surge in popularity across Europe, with platforms like Temu playing a pivotal role in this evolving landscape. Trendyoo, a Frankfurt-based company established by Nuri Goksu, has become a major force in the German market, now representing over half of all refurbished iPhone sales in the country. The company’s decision to join Temu has paid dividends, with the online marketplace contributing 20% of its total revenue within just three weeks, a performance Goksu described as unmatched by even the largest platforms. This rapid uptake highlights both the growing appeal of refurbished devices and the effectiveness of new digital sales channels in reaching broader audiences.
The wider European recommerce sector is expanding at a remarkable pace, outstripping growth in traditional retail. According to Cross-Border Commerce Europe, the market for secondhand goods is expected to hit €120 billion by 2025, with electronics, furniture, and vehicles now making up the majority of transactions. A recent Kantar survey revealed that more than half of European consumers are open to purchasing refurbished smartphones, with affordability cited as the main draw. Sellers are responding by offering significant discounts—sometimes over 50% off new prices—on a broad selection of electronics, from mobile phones to gaming consoles.
The shift towards online recommerce is also benefiting other sellers such as Fone Central, a London-based firm that recently joined Temu to expand its reach. The platform’s lower fees and access to a younger, digitally savvy customer base have enabled businesses to boost sales while maintaining healthier profit margins. As more companies embrace refurbished technology and tap into the growing appetite for sustainable and cost-effective alternatives, Temu and similar marketplaces are poised to play an increasingly prominent role in Europe’s digital retail ecosystem.
