Tele2 has secured the second spot among 500 European companies in the “Europe’s Climate Leaders 2024” list, a prestigious ranking by Financial Times and Statista. Not only does Tele2 stand out as the top Swedish company, but it also leads the pack in the European telecommunications sector. This recognition marks the fourth consecutive year that Financial Times and Statista have compiled this list, which assesses companies’ efforts in reducing their carbon footprint across various operational scopes.
Erik Wottrich, Head of Sustainability, Tele2 states that “We are very pleased and honored to once again be top ranked among Europe’s climate leaders for the second year in a row. Improving our score from last year’s leading score of 86.9 to 87.9 this year is a significant step that we at Tele2 are incredibly proud of. For Tele2, climate action is a top priority, and we have set a goal to achieve net-zero emissions in our operations and value chain by 2035. Our vision is to be a leader in sustainability in our industry, and these types of awards show that we are on the right track”.
The ranking is based on a comprehensive evaluation of companies’ reduction in emission intensity from their operations (scope 1) and the energy they purchase (scope 2), covering the period from 2017 to 2022. Tele2’s impressive score of 87.9, an improvement from the previous year’s 86.9, reflects its ongoing commitment to transparency and reduction of emissions, including those in the supply chain (scope 3). Although Tele2 was the previous year’s leader, this year it trails just behind National Air Traffic Services, the British air traffic control provider, which scored 88.8 points. Nonetheless, Tele2’s consistent performance cements its role as a benchmark for sustainability in the telecom industry.
