Iliad highlights circular economy progress in 2025 sustainability report

Italian telecom operator Iliad has published its 2025 Sustainability Report, outlining progress across its environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments while continuing to expand its customer base and network infrastructure.

The company ended the year with more than 13 million active users, including 12.6 million mobile subscribers, maintaining its position as Italy’s leading operator for net customer growth for the seventh consecutive year.

On the sustainability front, Iliad reported significant progress in reducing its environmental footprint. The operator is targeting carbon neutrality for its direct operations by 2035 and recorded a 20% reduction in direct emissions alongside a 37% decrease in emissions linked to electricity consumption compared to the previous year.

Circularity remains a key pillar of the company’s strategy. Iliad revealed that 69% of its Iliadbox routers were refurbished and redeployed, while it continued to promote the sale of refurbished smartphones as part of its efforts to extend device lifecycles and reduce electronic waste.

The report also highlighted investments in network efficiency, with energy consumption reduced by up to 15% across its mobile infrastructure. Since entering the Italian market in 2018, Iliad has invested more than €4.5 billion in its telecommunications network.

Beyond environmental initiatives, the company continues to focus on employee development, digital inclusion and STEM education programs aimed at reducing the digital divide across Italy.

The latest report underscores how telecom operators are increasingly integrating circular economy principles into their operations, combining network growth with sustainability and device reuse initiatives.
