Beyon and Ericsson extend sustainability partnership to advance circularity

Beyon and Ericsson have extended their sustainability partnership to build on progress in energy efficiency, carbon emissions reduction and electronic waste management. Announced on 23 September 2026, the renewed memorandum of understanding will support further collaboration on sustainable network operations, innovative technologies and circular economy initiatives in Bahrain.

The collaboration has already delivered measurable energy savings across Batelco by Beyon’s network. Ericsson’s Radio 6646 5G radio equipment helped reduce energy consumption by up to 30%, while AI-driven software features delivered additional savings of up to 22%. Deployment of the Interleaved AIR 3218 single-antenna solution contributed a further reduction of up to 18%, according to the companies.

Circularity is another central part of the partnership. Through Ericsson’s E-Waste Programme, the companies have responsibly recycled 54 metric tonnes of end-of-life electrical and electronic equipment. The initiative helps divert retired technology from disposal and supports more responsible management of electronic equipment at the end of its operational life.

Under the extended agreement, Beyon and Ericsson will continue exploring energy-efficient network solutions, including zero-footprint sites, while expanding sustainability training and knowledge sharing. The partnership demonstrates how telecommunications operators can combine lower energy consumption with structured e-waste recovery to reduce the environmental impact of digital infrastructure.
