Bouygues Telecom and Recommerce celebrate 15 years of sustainable partnership

Bouygues Telecom and Recommerce Group are celebrating 15 years of a successful partnership that has revolutionised the mobile phone reconditioning market. Together, they have facilitated the take-back of over 2.5 million mobile phones, significantly contributing to the circular economy. Since 2009, both companies have been committed to addressing digital challenges through sustainable practices. Bouygues Telecom, via its investment fund Bouygues Telecom Initiatives, was one of the first operators to invest in the circular economy for digital devices. This initiative has helped establish a leading European technology company focused on the reuse and recycling of mobile devices.

In 2010, Bouygues Telecom entrusted Recommerce with managing its mobile take-back service, both in stores and online. This collaboration has provided customers with €248 million in discounts and prevented the emission of 50 kg of CO2 per refurbished smartphone. The partnership has also avoided the extraction of 154 kg of raw materials per device, thus reducing environmental impact and preserving natural resources.

Edward Bouygues, President of Bouygues Telecom Initiatives, expressed his satisfaction with the partnership, noting its success over the past 15 years. Christophe Bortoli, Bouygues Telecom’s Director of Operational Marketing and Terminals, highlighted the program’s effectiveness in addressing the environmental impact of digital technology while supporting customers’ purchasing power.

Recommerce continues to innovate, enhancing the trade-in and resale process to meet growing consumer demand. Pierre-Etienne Roinat, Chairman and co-founder of Recommerce Group, emphasised their commitment to simplifying and democratising the take-back process, aiming to strengthen local circular economy loops through new technologies.
