Pre-owned technology retailer CeX has rolled out Auror’s retail crime reporting platform across its 390 UK stores, giving employees a centralised system for recording incidents and identifying patterns of retail crime. The technology is designed to help store teams improve safety while enabling the company to work more effectively with law enforcement on serious cases.

While the initiative is primarily focused on employee and store safety, it is particularly relevant to the second-hand technology sector. Retailers such as CeX handle large volumes of smartphones, laptops, gaming equipment and other valuable electronics, making secure and well-managed retail operations an important part of maintaining a functioning recommerce ecosystem.

The development also illustrates that building a circular economy requires more than simply collecting and refurbishing devices. A mature resale market needs secure retail networks, reliable processes and consumer confidence.
