Orange and La Poste have launched an innovative initiative to recycle network equipment used during the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This collaboration, which aligns with the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategies of both companies, aims to minimise the environmental impact of digital technology. As part of the Paris 2024 legacy, approximately 90% of the Wi-Fi terminals and 78% of the switches from the Olympic sites will be repurposed and installed at La Poste’s locations across France starting in 2025
This large-scale reuse plan will see several thousand pieces of advanced telecom equipment, used briefly during the Games, being redeployed to key locations such as the Maison de l’Innovation in Nantes. This site, which will house over 800 IT professionals from La Poste, will benefit from the next-generation equipment, ensuring enhanced performance, availability, and durability. The refurbished devices will significantly improve connectivity and operational efficiency for La Poste employees, supporting digitalisation and new technological applications.
Orange and La Poste share a commitment to sustainable and responsible practices, with both companies aiming for net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. This initiative not only extends the lifespan of telecom equipment but also highlights the importance of the circular economy. By promoting the reuse and refurbishment of digital devices, Orange and La Poste are setting a precedent for reducing carbon footprints and fostering a more sustainable future in the tech industry.
Philippe Bajou, Secretary General of the La Poste Group and President of La Poste Group Immobilier, emphasises the company’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint through the reuse of network equipment deployed by Orange during the Olympic Games, aligning with their goal of promoting responsible digital practices. Aliette Mousnier-Lompré, CEO of Orange Business, highlights the Paris 2024 Olympics as a showcase of their technical expertise and expresses pride in the equipment’s second life with La Poste, underscoring their dedication to a sustainable and connected future while aiding clients in their environmental transition and carbon footprint reduction.
