Circular economy startup Reboxed has unveiled ReboxedOS, a platform crafted to assist brands in managing consumer electronics trade-ins while promoting sustainability. This platform enables companies to create and expand co-branded trade-in, resale, and recycling programs, focusing on both revenue growth and environmental stewardship. It integrates seamlessly with existing systems, providing direct stock feeds, API integrations, inventory management, and repair services.

ReboxedOS boasts several key features: Recirculate, which supports both digital and in-store trade-in programs for used electronics, and ReGenerate, which offers tools to monitor the sustainability impact and commercial performance of recommerce activities. Additionally, Restore aids in the refurbishment and resale of devices, while Rebox manages returns, repairs, and refurbishments. Notably, a quarter of all mobile phones sold last year were second-hand or refurbished.

Co-founder and CEO of Reboxed, Phil Kemish stated that “With ReboxedOS, we aim to reduce tech waste and support brands in adopting circular commerce. The platform offers up to 50 percent savings on tech, enhancing customer value while promoting sustainability. There is growing consumer interest in refurbished tech and trade-ins, making recommerce increasingly important for brand”, while the Co-founder Matt Thorne emphasised on “…improving the trade-in and e-commerce experience to make recommerce a core part of customer engagement, helping brands extend product life and connect with environmentally conscious consumers.”

Reboxed reports that the secondary market for devices is expanding 16 times faster than traditional retail, reflecting a notable shift towards sustainable and affordable purchasing. According to their Future of Circular Electronics Report 2024, a quarter of all mobile phones sold last year were second-hand or refurbished, a 19% increase from 2021. Reboxed has collaborated with Three to provide refurbished products for the SIM-only SMARTY brand and partnered with Lebara Mobile and Airtime Rewards for used device sales.
