Ecogem, an industry player in appliance reuse, has announced its entry into the refurbished smartphone market. After processing over 327 000 household appliances and reusing more than 100000 units in just two and a half years, the company is now extending its expertise to high-tech devices.
This strategic move is supported by a partnership with Cash Converters, a brand owned by the same group. Through this collaboration, Ecogem sources phones directly from Cash Converters’ stores, refurbishes them, and returns them for resale. This hybrid model combining local collection and in-store distribution aims to strengthen customer proximity and improve access to refurbished smartphones across France.
To support this new line of business, Ecogem has set up a state-of-the-art refurbishment workshop, featuring robot-assisted diagnostics. The entire process logistics, diagnostics, and repairs is handled in-house at its Paris facility, which is rare in an industry where such operations are often outsourced abroad. With a daily production goal of over 250 refurbished phones, the company aims to rank among the top 10 refurbishment workshops in France.
This expansion includes the creation of 20 new jobs, including logistics personnel, diagnostics specialists, and skilled repair technicians, all dedicated to this new activity.
Ecogem also offers a 24-month warranty on all its refurbished smartphones, ensuring quality equivalent to new devices, with the option for trade-in based on a pre-defined pricing scale.
