Bol embraces sustainability with refurbished electronics

Bol has broadened its product offerings to include refurbished smartphones, tablets, laptops, and smartwatches. This new category aims to provide consumers with a more sustainable choice, enhancing Bol’s already comprehensive range. To ensure the quality of these refurbished items, Bol collaborates with four selected sales partners, all of whom are affiliated with the Keurmerk Refurbished of Techniek Nederland. Each device undergoes a stringent quality check and comes with a two-year warranty.

Annually, over 50 million tons of electronic waste are generated worldwide. By promoting the reuse of devices, Bol helps reduce the need for new production, aligning with its sustainability goals. The refurbished products are seamlessly integrated into Bol’s overall inventory, offering customers a viable alternative to new electronics. This initiative represents a significant step in Bol’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

Oscar Hundman, Bol’s Chief E-commerce Officer, emphasises the company’s commitment to reducing CO2 emissions, water waste, and electronic waste. He highlights that offering refurbished electronics is crucial to this effort. With over 13.6 million consumers reached annually in the Netherlands and Belgium, Bol aims to provide a sustainable alternative to new products. Looking ahead, the company plans to expand its refurbished offerings to include game consoles, electronic kitchen appliances, and household appliances.

To maintain high standards, Bol partners with Fixje, Forza, Leapp, and Renewd, all of which meet the Refurbished Quality Mark of Techniek Nederland. Each device is inspected on more than 50 aspects, with necessary repairs and replacements made to parts such as the casing, software, battery, camera, and screen. The devices are also cleaned and come with a new charging cable. Consumers receive a two-year warranty, ensuring confidence in their purchase of refurbished electronics.
