Timpson has teamed up with musicMagpie to introduce on‑the‑spot smartphone trade‑ins at more than 1,300 of its high‑street shops, giving customers a quick and convenient way to turn old devices into cash. Shoppers can bring a used handset to any participating store, have it checked on the spot and receive payment directly into their bank account within minutes. The partnership blends Timpson’s nationwide retail reach with musicMagpie’s device‑grading and pricing expertise.
The move responds to strong consumer appetite for in‑person trade‑ins. Research commissioned by musicMagpie shows that nearly three‑quarters of UK adults have at least one unused phone lying at home, and most prefer handing over old tech face‑to‑face rather than sending it by post. A quarter of those surveyed also said immediate payment is a key factor when deciding where to trade in a device, highlighting the appeal of the new service.
With an estimated £10 billion worth of dormant tech sitting in UK households, both companies believe the collaboration will make it easier for people to recycle their devices and recover value. Timpson says adding smartphone trade‑ins complements its wide range of services, while musicMagpie calls the rollout a major step forward in expanding its omnichannel presence and making trade‑ins more accessible nationwide.
